Wellcome - Assessing the need and developing a framework for doctoral training
24/07/2026
CRAC-Vitae, working with partners at KEMRI in Kenya, IISER Pune in India, RMIT University Vietnam, and Nelson Mandela University in South Africa, has been commissioned by Wellcome to undertake a new project to understand and make sense of Wellcome’s place in the global doctoral training landscape.
The project will examine the value of doctoral training, identify where more support may be needed, and develop a practical framework for what good doctoral training should look like. It will consider doctoral training across the UK and low- and middle-income country contexts in Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia, drawing on literature, funder practice, country case studies, comparator frameworks, interviews and stakeholder workshops.
We will be having conversations with relevant stakeholders across the course of the project.
